Preachin’ to the answering machine
11:09 a.m. — 1200 Block of U.S. 1. Threatening phone call. The suspect, who referred to himself as a reverend, left several “strange messages” on the victim’s office answering machine, quoting bible verses and saying that he needed to "save" her.
There were 12 messages that had been left during a four-and-a-half hour span.
Although none of the messages were threatening, the victim wanted the incident documented due to previous issues with the suspect.
(Insert "Weekend at Bernie’s" joke here.)
7:33 p.m. — 300 Block of Atlantic Avenue. Suspicious incident. A man was driving down the road when an Ormond Beach woman ran into traffic and flagged him down. The woman said her husband was dead.
After the man stopped to help, the woman told him she didn’t need his help anymore, and that it was just a joke.
When police arrived, the woman said her friend had played a joke on her and pretended to be dead. Her friend likes to act, she told police, and when she ran into traffic, she wasn’t sure if he was alive or dead.
Police told the man he shouldn’t joke about being dead.
