The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious incident that occurred Sunday afternoon involving a child who reported being offered a ride by a stranger in the area of Red Mill Drive in Palm Coast.

The 11-year-old said he was riding his bike on Red Mill Drive, between Red Barn Drive and Renshaw Drive, around 3:54 p.m., when he was approached by a black man in a shiny, black, full-sized van.

The male was described as having a medium complexion, shoulder-length dread locks and wearing a black jacket or long-sleeved shirt with a white undershirt.

The youngster said the man offered candy and toys if the boy would get into the van. The boy said he screamed and then rode his bike home, where he reported the incident to his mother.

“We are investigating this report, but at this time, we have had no other similar reports,” Sheriff Jim Manfre said. “However, it is always timely for parents to remind their youngsters to never talk with strangers and report suspicious activities.”

Anyone who may have information on this incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 313-4911.
