The triple play

A triple play is not very common in Major League Baseball. And it never happens in Little League. Unless you’re Evan Miller.

Evan, 7, turned an unassisted triple play Saturday in the Minor B (ages 7-9) division of the Palm Coast Little League.

Miller, who was playing first base, caught a fly ball, then tagged first base and ran over and tagged second base before the runners could tag up.

“Palm Coast Little League is a 100% volunteer run program that prides itself on each child having lifelong memories of their days at the field,” said Evan’s mom, Rachel Miller. “Evan will never forget last Saturday.”

Congrats, Evan, on accomplishing a task that many people won’t ever get to do.

Paiz leads team to Flagler Fast title
Talk about domination ...

Team Trademark knocked off the Red Devils, 7-6, Wednesday night in the 14-and-under champions of the Flagler Fast spring season at the Flagler County Fairgrounds.

Trademark, coached by Shannon Gutierrez, Kristi Paiz and Steve Thomas, went 17-1 during the regular season and undefeated in the playoffs en route to the championship.

Kiara Bass was the starting pitcher for Trademark, lasting four innings before she made way for Alyssia Paiz to close out the game.

Paiz helped her team win, going 2-for-2 with a two-run home run and a grand slam. She also recorded the final two outs on a game-ending double play.

“I’m out there most of the time, and it is all volunteers,” Gutierrez said. “At the end of everything, it’s priceless, because every day, these girls learn something different.”

The league is run by President Kelvin Claxton. The fall season will begin in October.

Johnson named MLS Player of the Week
Eddie Johnson, of Seattle Sounders FC, was named the MLS Player of the Week for Week 12 of the Major League Soccer season.

Johnson scored twice on Saturday, helping Seattle win 4-2 over FC Dallas.

It was the first such award this season for Johnson, who attended Flagler Palm Coast High School and has a field named after him in Bunnell.
