An 88-year-old woman used her cane to hit her two neighbors during an argument over a sweatshirt, one of whom was pregnant, deputies say.
Nayade Romeo approached her male neighbor Tuesday and started an argument over a child’s sweatshirt that was lying in her swale, according to a charging affidavit. As the argument escalated, Romeo used her cane to push the sweatshirt out of her swale and into the road.
Romeo and her neighbor continued to argue, and Romeo used her cane to poke her neighbor in the chest, the affidavit says.
The man’s wife, who is 34 weeks pregnant, heard the commotion and came outside. Romeo began to argue with her as well, eventually striking the woman in the stomach with her cane.
Romeo’s neighbors said disagreements between them and Romeo have been an ongoing problem. Romeo knew the woman was pregnant, they said.
Romeo was transported to the Flagler County Inmate Facility on $7,500 bond.
