The Palm Coast Veterans of Foreign Wars hosted a Veterans Recognition Day honoring World War II and Korea veterans last month. U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, a veteran himself, greeted and spoke with the veterans to thank then for their service.
Three Matanzas students recognized by Plum Creek
Plum Creek has awarded $1,000 scholarships to three Matanzas High School students. Leah Blizard will attend the University of South Florida and is the daughter of Charles and Nancy Blizard.
Cheyenna Espinoza will attend the University of Florida in the fall. She played softball for Matanzas and is the daughter of Felipe and Eva Espinoza.
Cindy Orosz will attend the University of Central Florida in the fall and received first place for her self portrait in the Palm Coast Spring Art Festival. She is the daughter of Edit and Gyula Orosz.
GOLA to host student art show against tobacco
The Gallery of Local Art will be hosting Students Working Against Tobacco Art Show/World No Tobacco Day Photo Contest. The photographs will depict how children view the tobacco industry's efforts to entice young people through advertising and other means.
Organized by Jaffy Lee and Teresa Williams, the show began May 31 and will continue through the June 7 First Friday event, which coincides with GOLA’s Garden Party Art Show and reception. There will be music by Mark Wagenschnur, who designs and makes flutes by hand. GOLA is on South Central Avenue in Flagler Beach. Visit galleryoflocalart.com. Call 439-6659.
