Triumph Endurance Events teamed up with Ocean City Surf Company Saturday, May 25, to bring a one-of-a-kind event to Flagler Beach. The first stand-up paddleboard and run race, SUP‘n and Run’n, drew more than 100 participants.

The idea was the brainchild of Triumph Endurance Events Founder Carrie Meng, who got into paddleboarding while in Key West. At the time, the sport had not made its way to Flagler Beach. When Ocean City Surf came to town, she saw a great opportunity to collaborate on an event.

The .75-mile paddle in the ocean, followed by a three-mile run, required some changes on race day because of a rough shore break and less-than-favorable paddle conditions. But Meng, who said safety comes first, said everyone gave a strong effort.

The event also raised funds and awareness for Surfers for Autism, which will bring its event back to Flagler Beach Aug. 17.
