With Triple Nickles as muse, Palm Coast junior wins award

Jasmine Alson, of Palm Coast, recently won the Florida History Fair’s African American Heritage Award for her documentary on Walter Morris of The Triple Nickles, called “The Triple Nickles: Jumpstarting Integration in the Armed Forces of America.”

The Florida History Fair was held May 6 in Tallahassee, with about 1,000 student representatives from 31 counties. Alson, a junior from Father Lopez Catholic High School, won the 2013 Florida History Fair: African American Heritage Award for her documentary.

The project was based on the story by Megan Hoye in the Nov. 10, 2012, edition of the Palm Coast Observer. Alson’s parents are Al and Leah Alson.

Palm Coast Ford continues community donations

Palm Coast Ford recently presented two scholarships worth $1,500 each at the Senior Scholarship Night ceremony at Flagler Auditorium.

Education Foundation Director Deborah Williams said Palm Coast Ford is a leader in the community, providing more than $30,000 each year to support various youth activities and educational programs.

On June 13, Palm Coast Ford will be recognized at the 26th-annual Commissioner’s Business Recognition Awards Ceremony.
