Two school buses stolen from the Flagler County bus garage in July have been recovered in Gainesville, along with buses stolen from other locations in Florida and Georgia, according to a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office news release.
School district officials reported two All American school buses were discovered missing from the garage on Aug. 8 when employees were scheduled to do maintenance on the buses. School employees said one of the buses had been equipped with a GPS, but discovered the tracking system was disabled on July 27.
“It appears these buses were stolen as part of an elaborate theft ring operating in Northeast Florida and South Georgia,” Flagler County Sheriff Jim Manfre said in a news release.
Flagler County investigators learned of the recovery over the weekend of two buses stolen from
Lowndes County, Ga., in October, that were found at EverBank field in Jacksonville, where the Florida-Georgia college football game was being played.
Jacksonville investigators located those buses at the stadium that were being used to shuttle fans to and from the game.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested Alphoso Bernard Rock on Monday in connection to the recovery of the two stolen school buses at EverBank Field on Saturday. The buses were reported stolen out of Lowndes County School District.
Rock is the owner of 95 South Tours and Transportation.
He has been charged by Jacksonville authorities with theft of a motor vehicle less than $100,000.
Following the arrest of Rock, Flagler County investigators learned that the two buses stolen from
Flagler County could be located in an area near Interstate 75, in Gainesville.
Sheriff’s Office investigators contacted Gainesville authorities, who located the buses at that location.
Flagler County school officials have been notified of the recovery of the two buses.
A statewide investigation is underway in school bus thefts throughout Florida.
