More than 15 teams of runners will race a 50-mile path through Flagler County Saturday, starting at Pam Coast's Central Park and finishing in front of the Flagler Beachfront Winery on Oceanshore Boulevard.
The relay race — called Oceans 50 and organized by Triumph Endurance Events, a running and sporting events organizing group created in 2012 by Flagler Beach resident Carrie Meng — will take the teams of runners across bridges and along scenic wooded trails.
Most of the teams are made up of two to six runners, who will rotate running on the trails' 12 segments, which vary in length from about three to six miles. One man, ultramarathoner Brad Cory, will run the entire 50 miles alone.
The first teams will begin their run at 6 a.m., and the event will last through the late afternoon. Speed won't be the only factor that will bring in awards in the Oceans 50 race. There will also be prizes for best team costume and most creative team van or vehicle.
