Elevator Speech
With the Marineland Dolphin Adventure’s shift to being a nonprofit organization when the center was acquired by Georgia Aquarium three years ago, the goal was to help revitalize the town of Marineland, wiht eco-tours, new programming and an eco-center.
“It really opened our eyes to additional opportunities with grants, sponsorships and partnerships that we were never really able to explore in the past,” said Kurt Allen, vice president/general manager of Marineland. “Now, for example, we can partner with the Guy Harvey Oceans Foundation for sponsored admission to the park for title-I schools.”
Other programs include school field trips and the Conservation Field Station.
Wow factor
Marineland mainly attracts two kinds of people: the vacationer who is looking for something unique to do, and the person who has come to visit specifically for a dolphin encounter.
“The dolphin encounter is our bread and butter,” Allen said. “Our programs are small, hands-on exposures. Being small and intimate, you get to interact with the dolphins in a way that you don’t with our other competitors.”
