Because of their big victory at the District Competition Sat., Nov. 16, the entire Buddy Taylor Middle School musical theater class, led by Ann Paris, will be heading for February's Florida State Jr. Thespian Competition, in Melbourne. All of the students earned a Superior rating in at least one of their acts.

Group performances receiving Superiors are as follows: “King of New York” from “Newsies,” “We're in the Money” from “42nd Street,” and “Pick a Pocket or Two” from “Oliver.”

Students who received a Superior rating for an acting scene or a solo are as follows: Kyle Ryan, Austin Branning and Trevor Dunham in "Shopping Maul"; monologues performed by Michael Brown, Kyle Ryan and Gerald Kitt; and the solo "Diva's Lament" by Mackenzie Moore.

Excellent ratings were earned by David Flores and Gerald Kitt for their duet, Amy Raleigh and Sarah Main for their duet from “Cinderella,” Samantha Shumaker singing "Little Girls” from “Annie”, and the small group "Maybe" from “Annie.”
 

FPC baseball to host breakfast with Santa
The Flagler Palm Coast High School baseball teams will host their fourth-annual Breakfast with Santa 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the school. Cost is $4 for adults and free for kids younger than 4.

The price includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice and coffee. Bring your own camera. Activities include a craft table to make a Santa ornament, face painting, storytelling, snowball toss, writing a letter to Santa, coloring and a beanbag toss.
 

Flagler Schools ESE launches parent support group
The Exceptional Student Education Department of Flagler County Schools recently launched its first meeting of the Flagler County Public Schools’ Exceptional Parent Support Group last week, at the Government Services Building, in Bunnell.

The group meets 6-7 p.m. the second Thursday of every month, under the direction of licensed mental health counselor Holly Arkin. The next scheduled meeting date is Dec. 12.

This is a free service provided to the parents of students who possess special needs with a valid IEP currently enrolled in Flagler County Schools.
 

Congrats art show winners!
Students had a wide showing at the November Flagler County Art League show. Flagler Palm Coast High School student Joe Ohlrich was awarded best in show for student pieces. Other winners are as follows: first, Madeline Cadette; second, Sierra Biggs; third, Celeste Lugo; and honarble mentions, Jasmine Virsi, Kimberlite Howe, Johnee Louden, Desiree Paffumi and Alexandra Piazza.
 

Bunnell Problem Solvers prepare for States
Future Problem Solvers at Bunnell Elementary School are working on four projects to submit for state competition in March.

Team Readers are Leaders is researching the positive effects of education later in life and will begin tutoring students in kindergarten and first grade. Stress Arrest is working on raising awareness for students and adults about how to recognize symptoms of stress and teach stress relief techniques to students and adults. They plan to begin an after school stress reduction group for students and host a parent night later in the year.

The Uniform Closet project will begin a uniform closet for students that violate dress code, reducing the loss of instructional time for students in violation. The final project, Choose Your Ride, is working to raise awareness about the effects of drinking and driving and plans to have an assembly for high school students later in the year.
 

Rotary Club donates 1,000 dictionaries
The Rotary Club of Flagler County donated and delivered 1,008 dictionaries to local third-graders.

The Dictionary Project encourages children to use dictionaries to help use the English language effectively. Since the inception of the program, Rotary has donated more than 7,000 dictionaries to local third-graders.

In recent years, Rotarian Ken Neu and his wife, Diane, have coordinated the project with help from fellow Rotarians.

In the classroom…
Nina deBodisco's students are excited about bringing literature to life. The class read the “The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe,” by CS Lewis, earlier in the year and is now working on adapting a play to recreate the story, which they will present as a reader's theater to parents Nov. 22.
