SIDELINES: Roa named Rotary Club's Athlete of the Month

Brandon Roa, a senior at Flagler Palm Coast High School, was named as the Rotary Club’s Senior Scholar Athlete of the Month for November.

Roa competed on the cross-country team for the first time this season. He was a captain and finished with a personal-best time of 16 minutes, 50 seconds. He finished 1st Team All-Conference and was a member of the this year’s team that finished first in the 5-Star Conference and second in the district.
Roa moved to Flagler County last December from Egypt.

Girls hoops: FPC 71, University 25
Flagler Palm Coast scored 21 first-quarter points on Friday night, leading to a 71-25 drubbing of University.

FPC (5-0) was led in scoring by Prince Williams’ 14 points.

Shanteria Few added eight points, dished out three assists, racked up four steals and delivered four blocks.

FPC held University to single-digits in three of the game’s four quarters.

The Lady Bulldogs added three 3-points.

FPC grad Maschio tallies first collegiate goal
Martin Maschio Jr., a freshman at Erskine College, tallied his first collegiate goal on Oct. 30.

Maschio, who graduated from Flagler Palm Coast in 2013, scored the game-winning goal with about 15 minutes to go in the game, giving his team a 2-1 win over North Greenville University.

Déjà vu? Flagler Falcons fall short
For the second year in a row, the Flagler Falcons Jr. Midgets team couldn’t make it past the regional semifinals.

The Falcons lost to the Jensen Beach Falcons, 22-20, on Saturday.

The loss ends the team’s season.

Flag football: Jaguars top Dolphins
The Jaguars knocked off the Dolphins, 18-16, over the weekend in 10U Super Bowl of the Flag Football 4 Fun League. 

Seventh-annual Toys for Tots golf tourney: Dec. 5
Time to tee up the golf ball for some toys.

The seventh-annual Toys for Tots golf tournament, sponsored by The Grand Club’s Women’s Golf Association, is slated for Dec. 5, at the Pine Lakes Golf Club.

Game format is best ball of partners, and teams are opened to men, women and mixed.

Cost is $25 for Grand Club members and $50 for nonmembers. Registration is scheduled for 7 a.m., and the shotgun start will begin at 8:30.

Participants are asked to bring an unwrapped toy the day of the tournament.
