Setting the pace: Seabreeze girls cross-country continues to roll

The Seabreeze girls cross-country team continued its run of success last week, taking first place at the team’s home meet with a perfect score of 15.

Then, the team competed in the Race of Champions event at the 14th-annual FL.Runners.com Invitational race Sept. 28, finishing in 10th place.

Almost all of the runners had personal records in the race, said coach Debora Diaz.

Kianna Bonnet led the way, finishing 37th overall in 19 minutes, 23 seconds — just two seconds off her personal record.

The rest of the team finished as follows: Elizabeth Murray (50th, 19:42), Alyssa Bayliff (69th, 20:00), Josie Gray (70th, 20:01), Lea Gray (155th, 21:31), Forever Young (167th, 21:47), Ashley Beers (206th, 23:29), Sarah Myers (210th, 23:28) and Amber Kelley (213th, 23:47).

Unranked at the beginning of the season, Seabreeze is now ranked No. 5 in Class 3A, Diaz said.

Father Lopez takes fifth, sixth at FL.Runners.com

The Green Wave cross-country team continues to do things it hasn’t done in a long time. And that continued Sept. 28, when both the boys and girls teams had the highest finishes ever at the FL.Runners.com race.

The girls team finished fifth in the unseeded race, with Paige Ward leading the way, finishing eighth overall in 20 minutes, 42 seconds. Ward has led the team in five straight races and has placed in all five meets. The rest of the team finished as follows: Valerie Villafane (13th, 20:58), Adrienne Yaryan (42nd, 22:26), Meghan Wilson (48th, 22:35), Annie Morejon (55th, 22:55), Lauren Fox (65th, 23:29), Emma McAskill (78th, 23:57), Christina Portuallo (119th, 25:10), Isabella Napolitano (127th, 25:21) and Sarah Wright (137th, 25:45).

The boys team finished sixth, with Adam Farmer setting the pace, finishing 15th overall in 17:58. This was the third race this season Famer led the team.

The rest of the team finished as follows: Nick Theriault (32nd, 18:35), Kevin Scheiber (34th, 18:39), Matthew Roof (53rd, 19:18), Sebatian Siliva (66th, 19:39), Chase Massi (68th, 19:39), Connor Nyborg (91st, 20:21), Jackson Bush (94th, 20:25), Patrick Bowler (117th, 20:59) and Noah Dunn (125th, 21:26).
