Sex offender Snodgrass jailed in Massachusetts
The Cape Cod Times has reported that Daniel Snodgrass, 59, who lives near Ormond Beach, has been jailed in Barnstable, Mass., for violating his probation on two cases involving child sexual assault and pornography. He will be held until Oct. 11 when he faces a formal hearing where his probation could be revoked and he could receive additional prison time.
In August, Florida officials informed the court in Massachusetts of letters from two parents concerned with their teen boys’ contact with Snodgrass through a Web site he ran. Barnstable Superior Court Judge Gary A. Nickerson ordered Snodgrass held because there was probable cause to believe he had contacted minors.
Florida Power and Light Tree Trimming
Florida Power and Light will be performing routine tree trimming maintenance along rights of way of several streets in Ormond Beach beginning early this month. The work will occur Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 866-274-9098.
New solid waste rates go into effect
The city gave final approval a 2% increase in the fees for solid waste collection. Residential rates, for an average single-family residence, for garbage will go from $13.59 to $13.86, and the charge for recycling will go from $2.89 to $2.95 for a total of $16.81 per month.
The city has been using a reserve fund to offset the cost of rising costs. At a budget workshop this summer, the commissioners decided to raise rates to avoid a big increase when the fund is drawn down. The previous increase was in 2009 and was 9.57%.
Leisure Services Parks maintenance staff keeps busy
In an effort to keep sand from blocking the drainage at the splash pad at Andy Romano Park, the staff recently installed new signage encouraging beachgoers to rinse their gear and sand-covered bodies with the hose that is provided, rather than rinsing off on the splash pad area.
New handicap-accessible picnic tables were installed at the play area at Fire Station No. 91 and Milton Pepper Park.
The loose and broken deck board on the pier at Sanchez Park was repaired, making it safer for anglers.
At the Magic Forest Playground in Nova Community Park, staff secured four picnic tables to the concrete slab. Staff also installed a new trash receptacle at Milton Pepper Park for patrons to use.
Public Works
Maintenance crews made repairs to the right of way on South Halifax Drive and trimmed trees along Granada Boulevard.
