That’s a pretty fly apartment

9:28 p.m. — 700 Block of Airport Road. Suspicious Incident. Police officers, on a report of a suspicious person, found that a hanger at the airport had an open latch. A man found inside of the hangar claimed that he was renting the space and was just inside watching a movie.

He later admitted that he had lost his house and has been living at the hangar for awhile. He displayed documentation showing that he leases the place and even had a key to the airport property. The officer found that no crime was committed and sent notification to the airport manager.

Bike thief bites the bait

3:38 p.m. — 1800 Block of South Palmetto Avenue. Grand Theft. An officer watched as a suspect took a bike from a bus stop — but the bike he stole was put there by law enforcement as bait.

The mountain bike was valued at $400. The suspect said he didn’t want the bike but his girlfriend told him to take it. He then said he just saw it lying there and thought it might be his uncle’s, so he brought it back to his house. He was arrested for grand theft.

Another shrimp-down-the-shorts caper

5:35 p.m. — 200 Block of North Nova Road. Petit Theft. A grocery store manager said he saw the suspect stuff a white paper package down the front of his shorts near the deli, but when asked by police if that were true, the man was sarcastic and uncooperative.

The officer “gloved up” and searched the man's boxer shorts, where he found a one-pound package of peel-and-eat shrimp, valued at $9.08. The suspect constantly interrupted the officer while being read his Miranda rights and also stated that he did not understand his rights. He was released with a notice to appear in court.

Sept. 26

Pastor disaster

8:59 p.m. — 10 Block of Brook Crest Way. Suspicious Incident. The homeowner told police that, earlier in the evening, a man came to her door demanding to see her 16-year-old niece. The homeowner asked who the man was and then shut the door when he wouldn't answer.

The niece later said that the man was the pastor from her previous church. The subdivision gatekeeper let him in because he had all of the girl's information.

The gatekeeper agreed not to let him in again.
