Runners on both the Flagler Palm Coast and Matanzas cross-country teams had their spikes laced up Saturday at the Bale ’N’ Trail race at Bartram Trail High School, in Jacksonville.
The Flagler Palm Coast boys had the best showing, finishing fifth out of 23 teams, with 164 team points.
Markell Peck led the way for the Bulldogs, finishing 12th overall in 16 minutes, 59 seconds. The rest of the top five finished as follows: Brandon Roa (28th, 17:33), Ashton Garrett (33rd, 17:38), Tyler Diniro (39th, 17:44) and Kadeem Wynn (52nd, 18:05).
The Flagler Palm Coast girls team finished 16th out of 21 teams with 377 points, one spot ahead of the Matanzas girls.
Sophia Clark led the way for the Lady Bulldogs, finishing 40th overall in 21:37. The rest of the top five finished as follows: Anna Walls (63rd, 22:30), Darien Halliday (92nd, 23:29), Myla DeFord (101st, 23:42) and Carissa McClellan (102nd, 23:43).
The Matanzas boys team finished ninth out of 23 teams, with 248 points.
Liam Conville led the way, crossing the finish line 26th overall in 17:32. David Perez (29th, 17:33), Anthony Colasanti (42nd, 17:54), Drake Goodman (50th, 18:04) and River Marti (109th, 19:27) rounded out the top five.
The Matanzas girls team finished 17th with 452 points.
Brianna Evans paved the way for the Lady Pirates, finishing 75th in 22:58. The rest of the top five finished as follows: Chase Kroul (78th, 23:07), Kristie Albano (88th, 23:23), Payton Tucker (110th, 24:03) and Kenzie Forgie (132nd, 25:03).
‘Find Your Pace’: Palm Coast Running Series set to begin this weekend
The city of Palm Coast’s Running Series will offer nine races for the 2013-2014 series, with the theme “Find Your Pace.”
The annual running series will begin this weekend with the Pink Army Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk and 1-mile support walk, beginning 7:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at Florida Hospital Flagler. (Register at www.palmcoastgov.com/pinkarmy55.)
The Palm Coast Running Series offers experienced and novice runners a year-round opportunity to compete, or walkers to enjoy some of the beautiful parks and trails in Palm Coast.
The Running Series includes distances of 5K, 10K, 15K, 10 miles, a half marathon (13.1 miles) and the 1-mile support run. The series, which includes a point system, concludes with the Autumn Trails Run each September and the presentation of the Running Series awards.
Each race in the Running Series includes the opportunity for parents to bring children for the fun run. All participants of the Fun Run get a participatory ribbon.

Pitch this: Two-day horseshoe pitching tourney coming to town
The Palm Coast and the Flagler Beaches tourism office along with the Flagler County Horseshoe Pitching Club announced last week that two tournaments are coming to town.
Competition begins Oct. 25, with the Florida/Georgia Tournament. Play continues Oct. 26 with the Flagler Tom Martone Open.
Horseshoe pitchers will be coming from all over Florida and Georgia to compete, with many expected to stay at least a night in Flagler County hotels, according to a tourism office press release.
Both tournaments begin at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend, and admission is free.
The tournaments will be held at the courts located at Old Dixie Park, a 20-acre county facility at 1250 S. Dixie Highway.
The county will also host the horseshoe pitching in the Ormond Beach Senior Games. Singles will compete 9 a.m. Oct. 31 at the park.
Club play is 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. A donation of $2 is suggested. There is a pizza party after play for club members on the first Tuesday of each month.
