Bunnell Elementary School may soon get its own sidewalk, as well as additional parking, outdoor pavilions and restrooms.
The Flagler County Board of County Commissions voted unanimously in a commission meeting Oct. 7 to approve a $250,000 contract with CPH Inc., a firm commissioned to design the new facilities and a paved trail that would encircle the school and connect to a nearby park.
“This is a complicated project because it involves a lot of outdated, improper draining, pre-permitted drainage,” County Administrator Craig Coffey said at the meeting.
“All the ditches around Bunnell Elementary are outdated. There’s going to be a whole drainage, storm water component of this,” he said. “We’re building a restroom, too.”
The Bunnell Elementary Trails Project was initiated by Bunnell, but the county’s engineering department is involved as well. The $250,000 for the CPH Inc. contract comes from federal grant funding.
Palm Coast Historical Society receives county grant for new visitor center
The Palm Coast Historical Society, which finally found a permanent home in Holland Park this year after years of bouncing around temporary housing, will receive $1,952 from the county to upgrade its new digs.
“The historical society finally has a place to stay, and it’s in Holland Park,” Palm Coast Historical Society Director Bill Venne said at an Oct. 7 Flagler County Commission meeting. “We’ll be furbishing it. It’s not only a place for the historical society workers to work and put a myriad of information together, but it will be a visitor center, an information center for anybody in Palm Coast.”
The County Commission voted unanimously Monday to approve the $1,952 Tourist Development Fund grant.
The Historical Society passed through a number of temporary homes in recent years, including a room at Matanzas High School and the Palm Coast Community Center, before finding permanent home at Holland Park, off Florida Park Drive.
