In a week off from district matchups, both Flagler Palm Coast and Matanzas picked up wins.
Flagler Palm C0ast (4-2) defeated Palatka, 16-0, to win its third straight game. Palatka came into the game on a four-game winning streak. FPC sophomore quarterback Dalton Thomas went 14-for-20 for 234 yards and a touchdown. Marcel Williams, also a sophomore, had eight catches, including a 70-yard touchdown catch on the first play of the second quarter.
FPC’s defense was stout once again, keeping an explosive Palatka offense to under 150 total yards. FPC also has not had a turnover in three straight games, and Jimmie Robinson had an interception to increase FPC’s turnover margin to plus-20.
Dee Lumpkins was the workhouse in the backfield, carrying the ball 15 times for 101 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown run.
Matanzas' Stefan Tucker sets record
Matanzas (2-4) routed Pine Ridge, 62-21, behind six touchdowns from senior Stefan Tucker. All of Pine Ridge’s points came in the second quarter, making it 35-21 at halftime. But the Pirates scored 27 unanswered points in the second half to secure the win.
Tucker’s six TDs are a single-game school record, coach Jeff Nettles said. Jeremiah Wilson also had a 93-yard touchdown run. On defense, Matanzas forced five turnovers, including an interception returned for a touchdown by Tucker.
