Habitat to help veterans build homes

Halifax Habitat for Humanity and Daytona Beach West Rotary Club have partnered to build homes for veterans who qualify for the program. Accessibility in the home will be tailored to the needs of the veteran. Gross annual family income for qualifying veterans should be between $19,000 and $40,000, but if income is slightly under or over those amounts, other financial circumstances may apply.

Halifax Habitat sells homes to qualified applicants at no profit and provides a zero interest mortgage. Call 257-9950 or email [email protected].

Residents receive awards from mayor

At the State of the City Luncheon, Mayor Ed Kelley presented the Mayor’s Award for Civic Engagement to Bobbi and Bob Coleman for their volunteerism and contributions to the city of Ormond Beach, and to Dr. Frank Farmer, for successfully achieving “pill mill” reform as Surgeon General of Florida.

Update: Hand Avenue project

Hand Avenue is currently closed between Center Street and South Nova Road for work on the bridge over the culvert that connects two lakes. However, this is the last road scheduled for closure, and the work should be done in a couple of weeks, according to City Engineer John Noble.

The next project will be to pave the roads, which will be done one lane at a time. According to the agreement with the contractor, the project is due to be complete by the end of the year, but Noble said the contractor is ahead of schedule.

Report: public works

Leisure Services crews repaired the missing ropes surrounding the scenic overlook at Central Park III. Staff also installed a new city of Ormond Beach logo on the stone tower at the corner of Sanchez and Beach Street.

Asphalt crews installed a patch after utility repairs were made at Jamestown Drive and Peninsula Drive.
