Paige Ward won the JV Girls 1A/2A race over the weekend, at the Disney Cross-Country Classic presented by New Balance, finishing in 21 minutes, 32 seconds — leading the Green Wave to a third-place finish and a Mickey Trophy.
The top seven finished are as follows: Adrienne Yargan (15th, 24:08), Annie Morejon (18th, 24:27), Lauren Fox (19th, 24:29), Megan Wilson (27th, 25:13), Madeline Muscante (42nd, 26:01) and Emma McAskill (44th, 26:09).
The Father Lopez girls cross-country team has won five trophies this season, and this was the biggest invitational win ever for the team, said coach Suzanne O’Malley. It was also Ward’s first overall win. The team has also finished in the top five in seven straight invitational races this season.
The boys team finished fourth in the same race, making it the highest Disney finish ever. The team has finished in the top 10 in seven straight invitationals.
Nick Theriault led the team for the third time this season, finishing ninth overall, in 18:51.
The rest of the top seven finished as follows: Kevin Schreiber (11th, 19:02), Chase Massi (32nd, 20:06), Connor Nyborg (41st, 20:16), Jackson Bush (43rd, 20:19), Andy Ufheil (51st, 20:38) and Patrick Bowler (93rd, 22:13).
How sweep it is: Lady Sandcrabs take first at 5-Star meet
After five years of seeing Spruce Creek win the 5-Star Conference Freshman/Sophomore cross-country meet, the Seabreeze girls had enough.
The Lady Sandcrabs knocked Spruce Creek off its throne Oct. 8, with runners sweeping the top three.
Elizabeth Murray (1st, 19:57), Kianna Bonnet (2nd, 20:15) and Lea Gray (3rd, 21:23) led the team.
Seabreeze finished with 57 points; second-place Spruce Creek finished with 65.
The Lady Sandcrabs then took first place Oct. 12 in the Bronco Bobs meet, held at Middleburg High School.
Kianna Bonnet finished third in 19:30. The rest of the team finished as follows: Elizabeth Murray (4th, 19:45), Alyssa Bayliff (8th, 19:58 and personal record), Josie Gray (13th, 20:34), Lea Gray (23rd, 21:12 and personal record), Forever Young (31st, 21:34 and personal record) Ashley Beers (72nd, 23:51), Amber Kelley (84th, 23:54) and Sarah Myers (89th, 24:07).
Father Lopez edges St. Joseph, FPC in golf
Father Lopez shot a 173, defeating St. Joseph (175) and Flagler Palm Coast (175) at the Daytona Beach Golf Club.

St. Josephs: Lopez 40, Turner 42, Morgan 45, Bavuso 48
FPC: Gerhard 41, Wright 43, Monfre 45, Gazzoli 46
Lopez finished the regular season 8-3.
Ormond Beach softball: Nov. 4
The Ormond Beach men’s winter softball league begins Nov. 4, to run through early February, with each team guaranteed 16 games. Players must be 18 years old.

Lady Renegades announce 8U team
You're never too young to start playing fast-pitch softball, and so the Ormond Beach Lady Renegades announced last week an 8U team.
Most of the players started playing together when they were 5 years old with Ormond Beach’s recreational program.
The Lady Renegade 8U team recently competed in the September and October home tournaments in Ormond Beach, hosted by the Lady Renegade organization.
