The Matanzas Woods Golf Course property is under contract, but is not officially sold yet, according to Jim Cullis, president of Grand Haven Realty. The sale was incorrectly indicated as being final in a story in the Oct. 10 Palm Coast Observer.

On the weekly show, Free For All Friday, on WNZF radio, Cullis said the company is beginning its investigation into the property.

“We’re going to go through a process and meeting with neighbors to come up with a plan,” he said.

While it is possible the property could remain a golf course, Cullis said “there’s not a lot of capital” to pursue that option.

He said the property could make a great regional park with hiking trails, similar to Linear Park on Palm Coast Parkway. Right now, there are no parks in the Matanzas Woods area, even though those residents continue to pay taxes to support the rest of the city’s parks, he said.

Still, Cullis said, the plans are just preliminary right now. It will take 2-3 more weeks to assess the land and months to determine what to do with it.

The owners of The Grand Club, who are working on the potential sale to Cullis, issued this statement: "We are committed to developing a practical plan for the property that best meets the desires of our members and the Matanzas community."
