Charges have been filed against Louis Prinzo, of Ormond Beach, who was involved in an accident that resulted in the death of Flagler County teens Lane Burnsed and Meredith Smith just before 11 p.m. July 26, 2012, on Interstate 95.

At the scene immediately after the accident, Prinzo was found to be in possession of a syringe and a twisted straw with an unknown substance. The police report said he “had constricted pupils and his demeanor was not normal but acting lethargic and took his time answering questions.” He admitted he had “snorted some white stuff and smoked some marijuana.” The charging affidavit from the State Attorney’s Office said that his blood tested positive for oxycodone and alprazolam, an anti-anxiety drug. The affidavit states that these drugs impair motor and cognitive performance.

Prinzo has been charged with two counts of DUI causing death, DUI causing serious bodily injury and two counts of vehicular homicide. He faces a maximum sentence of 40 years, according to Klare Ly, spokesman for the state attorney’s office.
