The Matanzas and Flagler Palm Coast volleyball teams will end their regular seasons on Thursday, when the two Flagler teams meet for the annual Dig Pink event at 6 p.m. at Flagler Palm Coast. The game will also be FPC’s senior night.

Money raised will go toward breast cancer awareness. Last year, about $500 was raised, but FPC coach Shakirah Cousins has her sights set on raising more than $750 this year.

FPC will be the No. 2 seed in next week’s District 1-8A tournament. Matanzas will be the No. 5 seed in the District 5-6A tournament.

Plantation Bay members sweep field at DAV Inaugural Golf Classic
It was quite a day for Plantation Bay members at the DAV Inaugural Golf Classic held Oct. 5, at the Plantation Bay Club de Bonmont north and south courses.

The team of Ed Todd, Steve Michaels, Mike Walters and Jack Becker scorched the course and the rest of the field with a blistering score of 12-under par 60.

Becker also won the closest-to-the-pin contest, and fellow member Joe Orr won the putting contest and a brand new Titleist putter. Toni Blount prevented the total sweep, winning the long drive contest and a new Titleist driver.

“The weather was great, the course was in super shape, the golf was fantastic, and the food was superbly delicious,” said Gerald Fauntleroy, DAV marketing director.

The second-annual Palm Coast Ford/DAV Golf Classic is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 4, 2014.
