SIDELINES: Seabreeze girls cross-country wins 5-Star Conference

With runners finishing first, second, third and fourth, the Seabreeze girls cross-country team cruised to the 5-Star Conference title. Also: Riptide Gymnastics grab 54 medals; Father Lopez Booster Club to host annual golf tournament; Ormond Beach announces boys hoops league; and, Golf Scores.

Seabreeze runners take conference gold

One, two, three, four: That’s how Kianna Bonnet, Alyssa Bayliff, Elizabeth Murray and Josie Gray finished at the 5-Star Conference meet over the weekend, leading the Seabreeze girls cross-country team to a first-place finish, with 22 team points.

Bonnet led the way, finishing first overall in 19 minutes, 49 seconds. The rest of the team finished as follows: Bayliff (second, 20:11), Murray (third, 20:28), Gray (fourth, 20:29), Forever Young (12th, 21:31), Lea Gray (17th, 21:58), Ashley Beers (40th, 23:44), Amber Kelley (42nd, 23:50), Nina Browder (43rd, 23:52) and Sarah Myers (54th, 24:33).

The boys team finished sixth, with 172 points.

Travis Hanson led the way, finishing 18th overall in 18:24. The rest of the team finished as follows: Ricardo Santiago (35th, 19:24), Eric D’Adesky (37th, 19:25), Mel Stack (42nd, 19:37), Sebastian Grubel (48th, 19:54), Cullen Byrne (54th, 20:11), Brendan McKernan (70th, 21:29), Garrhett Mikel (74th, 21:47) and Sean O’Dwyer (75th, 21:51).

Seabreeze will travel to New Smyrna Beach Oct. 26, for the district meet. There, it will be decided which runners and teams advance to regionals, to be held Nov. 2, in Lake Nona.

Riptide Gymnastics grab 54 medals

Riptide Gymnastics competed in its first competition, the River City Invite, Sept. 28, hosted by World Class Gymnastics, in Jacksonville.

The team won 54 medals and a first-place trophy for the Level 1 team all-around. Level 1 Savannah Rulka’s outstanding performance on the beam and floor routines earned her two first-place positions. The Level 2 team brought home the third-place trophy for team all-around, and the Level 3 team took fourth place in team all-around.

Amanda Vergel (Level 3) and Morgan Axiotis (Level 2) each finished with two second-place medals in the vault and floor routines.

Tee it up: Father Lopez Booster Club to host golf tournament

The Father Lopez High School Booster Club will hold its annual golf tournament Saturday, Oct. 26, at Plantation Bay Country Club, in Ormond Beach.

The four-player scramble will begin at 9 a.m. Cost is $100 per player and includes golf, tee gift, lunch and prizes.

All proceeds benefit the Lopez Booster Club.

Ormond Beach announces boy hoops league

Registration for the Ormond Beach Youth Basketball Association will be open through Nov. 7 for boys ages 8-15 years old (as of Sept. 1), at the city’s Leisure Services Department , 399 N. U.S. 1. Registration hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Monday through Thursday, and from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays.

Registration forms can also be completed online, at ormondbeach.org.

Anyone who registers prior to Nov. 1 will have their child enrolled in a free, preseason clinic, to be held 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2.

Cost is $65 for Ormond Beach residents and $98 for nonresidents.

The season will run from Nov. 16 to late February. Games and practices will be played at the Nova Community Center and the South Ormond Neighborhood Center. All coaches will need to attend tryouts and skill assessments Nov. 9 and Nov. 11.

The Riviera Country Club held its member-guest tournament Oct. 12-13. The results are as follows:

The Riviera Country Club held the Riviera Pro Am Oct. 18. The results are as follows:

Low Pro: Tyler Smith 71

Low Net: Dave Krupski 69

1st Team: Doug Powell, Mike Janis, Dave Krupski and George Prastitis 128

2nd Team: Tyler Smith, Leo Vicario, Ron Chariot and Jack Miceli 129.
