Flagler County residents will have an opportunity to safely discard unused and expired medications during the nationwide prescription pill take-back operation scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, at six locations throughout the county.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Bunnell Police Department and Flagler Beach Police Department, will participate in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day that has been organized by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
“This is a terrific opportunity for people to safely dispose of old medications that can often pile up in a drawer or medicine cabinet. It’s safe, simple and environmentally friendly,” Flagler County Sheriff Jim Manfre said in a statement.
Residents can drive up to the site, empty the medication from its container into the collection box and drive away. No personal information is required. All medications will be turned over to DEA and then properly disposed of in a manner that will not contaminate local landfills or our water supply.
Drop sites are accepting any expired or unwanted prescription or over-the-counter medication, vitamin or herbal remedies, as well as veterinary medications.
Hypodermic needles and syringes will not be accepted.
