Top-seeded Father Lopez swept Lake Mary Prep (No. 3 seed) in three games Thursday night, to claim the District 5-3A volleyball title for the second year in a row.

Father Lopez (18-9) won the first game, 25-17, then went on to win 27-25 and 25-10 in games two and three, respectively.

Madi Young had 11 kills and 15 digs; Lexie McMullin added 15 digs.

Last year, the Green Wave finished 19-9 before losing to P.K. Yonge in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs.

This year, Father Lopez will host Orangewood Christian 7 p.m. Tuesday in the regional quarterfinals.

“This season has been about a team coming together to play as a unit,” coach Allan Knight said. “They have worked hard toward a well-balanced offense.”

The Green Wave has been committed to defense and ball control throughout the season, Knight said.

“With only one senior on the team, it has been rewarding to see such a young group of players work hard toward their goals.”
