Opening-night jitters were not an issue for the Flagler Palm Coast girls soccer team on Tuesday.
The Lady Bulldogs (1-0) handled DeLand, 6-0, in a District 2-5A and 5-Star Conference game.
“It’s a district and conference win,” FPC coach Pete Hald said after the game. “So it’s a good way to start the season.”
Sarah DiLoreto and Josie Davis each scored a pair of goals to contribute to the winning effort.
Hald credits the new system that his team is running this year, which is designed to get his wingers more involved in the attack.
Amanda Raleigh and an own goal accounted for FPC’s other two goals.
“I just wished we would have finished a little bit better,” Hald said. “Their keeper had a few nice saves, but we really weren’t putting the ball on target like we should be. … When you put the ball in the offensive third, you have to put the ball into simple positions to score and we made it a little difficult on ourselves.”
FPC will be back in action on Thursday for another conference game when they take on New Smyrna Beach at 7 p.m. on the back field.
