For the first time in three years, the Flagler Palm Coast volleyball team can say they won a district game.
The Lady Bulldogs 3-3, 1-1 District 1-8A) knocked off previously unbeaten Mandarin, 3-2, on Thursday night in a district showdown.
The scores for the games were as follows: 25-20, 13-25, 13-25, 25-18 and 15-11.
After winning the first game, Mandarin rebounded and defeated FPC, 25-13, in Games 2 and 3, but the resilient Lady Bulldogs rallied to win the final two games in a match that lasted about 2.5 hours.
“I have not seen this type of intensity in my girls until tonight,” FPC coach Shakirah Cousins said. “They left everything on the floor like I asked, and we came out on top.”
Olga Nushtayeva, who recently verbally committed to Jacksonville University, had 24 kills and seven digs. Setter Sydney Schake had 33 assists. Monica Dorman had five kills, nine digs and three blocks, and Noelle O’Connor had 17 digs.
FPC travels to play First Coast on Tuesday and then travels to play crosstown Matanzas on Wednesday.
