Flagler Palm Coast felt the effects of almost two weeks off Thursday night, falling to University (Orange City), 14-6, in a non-district game.

FPC (1-1) didn't play last week's game against Seabreeze after a drainage system at the Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach failed.

"We made too many mistakes on our special teams and offensive side," FPC coach Caesar Campana said after the game.

The Bulldogs actually took a 6-0 lead thanks to special teams when Dee Lumpkins returned the second-half kickoff 90 yards for the score. But from there, it was all University Titans, who scored 14 points within nine seconds.

University's Tyler Aziz returned a punt for a touchdown. Then, on the ensuring kickoff, FPC fumbled, and Aziz scored on the next play from 18 yards out.

"Penalties really hurt us at crucial times, and we didn't play with much poise and enthusiasm," Campana said.

FPC will have an extra day to prepare for its biggest game of the season so far when the Bulldogs travel to Sandalwood for a 7 p.m. kickoff Sept. 20, in a District 1-8A showdown.

Last year's game between FPC and Sandalwood went to the wire, with the Bulldogs winning, 17-16, to keep their playoff chances alive.

Said Campana: "We will work on correcting our mistakes. ... We have to get a lot better soon."
