Digital information security is becoming more and more important in this computer information age, and the new tech program at Flagler Technical Institute/Adult and Community Education will train students for employment in the cyber security field.
The Applied Cyber Security Program covers data base security, planning and analysis, software and web security. The content includes but is not limited to foundational knowledge and skills in computer and network security, security vulnerabilities, attack mechanisms and techniques.
The first program begins Oct. 22 and will last through June 5. Registrations are now being accepted. For information, call 447-4345 or email [email protected].
County scholarship program seeks donors
Each year, Flagler County public high schools graduate approximately 1,000 seniors with the majority of them going on to a post-secondary institution of some kind. Some will receive athletic or academic dollars from their colleges, while others will take out loans or grants.
However, like everything else in life, there just isn’t always enough to go around for everyone who deserves or needs it. The county scholarship program for Flagler seniors is now in its 28th year, and the committee is already beginning its scholarship drive.
Each year, dedicated local organizations and individuals open their hearts and checkbooks so that Flagler Palm Coast and Matanzas deserving seniors, who have worked hard, can get a solid start in college.
The committee is currently seeking organizations and donors. Those interested should check the Flagler County Schools website for information and timelines or call Debbie Couch at 437-7540, Ext. 2226, during school hours.
The scholarship committee requests that scholarship donations begin at $500. Donors are asked to meet and acknowledge their recipient at a simple ceremony focusing on the recipients and all of their generous donors.
The 28th-annual FPC and MHS Senior Scholarship Ceremony will take place 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the Flagler Palm Coast Auditorium.
BOX: Community Problem Solvers are back in action!
With a month of school under their belts, the Community Problem Solvers at Flagler Palm Coast High School are hard at working creating project to improve their community. Here are some projects in progress:
Seminole Lights
The lack of streetlights and sidewalks down Seminole Woods Boulevard is causing a safety hazard for families in the neighborhood. Palm Coast City Council is putting sidewalks down Seminole Woods but needs information as to where the pedestrians and bikers walk or ride most frequently. However, the City Council is not focusing on putting up streetlights. Concerned student Kaitlyn Adams has created a petition to show the City Council the need for streetlights.
Her petition can be signed at www.petitions.moveon.org. Scroll down to the bottom of the site and search "Seminole Woods Street Lights." Email [email protected].
Class of Business Skills
This group will facilitate monthly seminars starting at the end of October/the beginning of November, to teach students life skills needed in the real world: how to pay taxes, how to apply for credit cards and housing and how to fill out a resume. Parents and community members who have an occupation that may be beneficial to share with students can email [email protected].
Hospitality and tourism
Freshman Community Problem Solver Kari Holm is creating a project on Flagler County's leading industry, tourism, to help students develop a storng work ethic and improve Flagler County's economy. This project is aimed to create an elective course for FPC that teaches students hospitality skills that prepare them for this thriving industry. Email [email protected].
Pawsitive
A Community Problem Solving project called Pawsitive focuses on homeless, rescued or abandoned animals. Team members Anna Walls and Nina Jones intend to increase awareness , so that these animals can get adopted and rescue efforts can prosper. If interested in volunteering at an animal rescue or aiding this project, email [email protected].
Every 1 Plays Saturdays
Community Problem Solving group Every 1 Plays Saturdays is interested in bringing equality and inclusion to FPC. This team is planning on creating monthly events for high school students with disabilities. These events will give students the opportunity to participate in recreational activities. At these events, this team hopes to have sports teams and clubs come out and interact with the participating students with disabilities, which will benefit groups involved. Any questions, suggestions or comments are welcomed at [email protected].
