It was a mix of positives and negatives for many Flagler Palm Coast cross-country runners at Saturday’s UF Mount Dew Invitational, in Gainesville.

The boys team finished 16th out of 61 teams with an average time of 17 minutes, 36 seconds.

Brandon Roa finished 42nd overall in 16:52, marking the best finish of his career. Markell Peck finished 77th overall in 17:18. Ashton Garrett (90th, 17:27), Kadeem Wynn (147th, 18:10), Luis Cordero (152nd, 18:12), Chase Rogers (160th, 18:18) and Tyler Diniro (259th, 19:37) rounded out the rest of the team.
The girls team finished 30th out of 56 teams with an average time of 22:33.

Sophia Clark’s 21:48 and 119th overall finish led the Lady Bulldogs. Josie Davis (157th, 22:28), Anna Walls (165th, 22:40), Darien Halliday (169th, 22:44), Myla DeFord (195th, 23:07), Brittany Marino (221st, 23:35) and Carissa McClellan (227th, 23:39) rounded out the team.

Both Walls and DeFord set personal bests in the race.

“A lot of the younger runners continued to progress,” FPC coach Dave Halliday said. “Many of the varsity runners ran a strong first two miles of the race and then just could not finish strong.”

FPC will compete Sept. 21, in the North Port Invitational, at North Port High School.
