Being a team is a lot like being a family. And for the Flagler Palm Coast swimming team, that couldn’t be truer. That’s because many of the swimmers are, in fact, family.

FPC features four different sibling pairs, and that’s something coach Marie-Anne Johansson says is a good thing.

"Having siblings helps team chemistry, I think," she said. "They push each other, and it helps bring the team together. Friends of each of the respective siblings are more likely to talk and interact with friends of the other sibling."

FPC traveled to Deltona on Wednesday to take on University. The girls team cruised to a 121-48 win. Meanwhile, the boys lost a close meet, 86-84.

“The outlook for the rest of the season is positive,” Johansson said. “We feel confident in getting some swimmers to the regional event.

FPC is a young team, Johansson said, with many of the swimmers being freshmen and sophomores new to the sport.

“They are the hardest working group of newbies we have ever had, and their hard work is already paying off,” she said. “I’m looking forward to the next four years, watching these swimmers grow into the sport.”
