Under coach Sara Novak, the Matanzas softball team continues to excel in the classroom as well as on the diamond.

Eight of the team’s 12 players were recognized this week as All-American Scholars by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for the 2012-2013 season.

“This means that eight girls had a 3.5 GPA or better while playing varsity softball last season,” Novak wrote in an email.

Because of the selections, the Lady Pirates players are also in the running for the All-American Team Scholar Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

The Lady Pirates recognized were as follows: Brianna Evans, Morgan Lambert, Summer Haire, Christina Reynolds, Gabrielle Prickett, Amanda Morea, Cheyenna Espinoza and Noelle Ecker.
