Neighbors squabble over a garbage can; former homeowners clear house before foreclosure; kids drink on the roof; and, silly bill collector, you're doing Craiglist wrong.

COMPILED BY THE OBSERVER STAFF

Sept. 19

Talkin' trash

6:10 p.m. — 300 Block of Wilmette Circle. Theft. The victim told police that when he arrived home from work, he noticed his trash can was missing from the back of his house, and he claimed his neighbors took it.

The neighbor said his roommate took the trash can because it belonged to them. He added that someone had stolen their trash can and then they saw it behind the victim’s house. They identified it with a paint mark. The victim described his trash can to the police officer and also described the garbage inside.

The officer asked the suspect to see the can and he showed one with “K1” painted on it. The officer asked if that was the identifying mark and the suspect said no, that they had just painted that. The officer asked to see the garbage and noted that it was the same refuse described by the victim. The suspect returned the can while still claiming that it was his.

Sept. 16

Holding on to the past

4:22 p.m. — 1000 Block of South Nova Road. Civil Complaint. A foreclosed building that the victim owns was missing several items, he told police. He said that before the previous owners left, they took the flooring, electrical fixtures, plumbing fixtures, wall coverings and aluminum exterior doors. The exterior doorways were also boarded up.

Being a civil matter, the officer asked for a detailed list of items to go with the police report. The victim was unable to provide contact information for the previous owners.

Sept. 16

Up on the roof

7:40 p.m. — 00 Block of Bayberry Court. Complaint. The son of a duplex resident was sitting on the roof in a chair and his friends were climbing a ladder to join him, the property manager told police. He said there was a lot of trouble, including underage drinking, at the residence.

The officer told the victim that he could not ban the suspect’s friends from the property unless the suspect’s mother asked him to, but the victim responded that the mother is gone a lot and doesn’t pay her rent. Eviction paperwork has started, he added. The officer told the suspects on the roof to leave.

Craig would not approve of this listing

7:53 p.m. — 100 Block of River Beach Drive. Trespassers. The victim said the suspect came to his home under false pretenses, claiming he was there to see cabinets he found on craigslist.com. When the victim let the suspect in, the suspect tried to give him an invoice for a boat removal, the victim says.

The victim claimed he had already paid for the service. The suspect was banned from the property.
