Following its season-opening win against Matanzas, the Flagler Palm Coast football team has had a game canceled and has lost two close games in the last two weeks.

FPC (1-2) lost to Sandalwood, 26-17, on Friday in the District 1-8A opener. For a team that has aspirations of making the playoffs for the first time since 2010, the Bulldogs find themselves in a hole early.

Campana said his team played with energy and improved in aspects of the game on Friday — something that he said didn’t really happen in the loss to University last week.

“However, we gave Sandalwood two touchdowns on turnovers,” he said. “You can’t win in 8A football by doing this.”

Flagler Palm Coast hosts New Smyrna Beach (1-3) on Friday for its Homecoming game. Despite New Smyrna Beach’s record, Campana said the Barracudas, who run mostly an option offense, will be another tough, non-district test.

“They have lost to three undefeated teams,” Campana said of New Smyrna Beach. “We have to prepare for another great challenge.”
