Seabreeze volleyball coach Tarisa Craig-Craggy has held her team for extra conditioning at the end of practices. But it hasn't been as punishment; it’s meant to make them better. And lately, it’s been working.

“The girls have definitely improved on their ability to close out games,” Craig-Craggy said Thursday, the day after her squad knocked off a red-hot Flagler Palm Coast team, 3-1. “The girls are in much better shape, and their confidence in themselves is high.”

Seabreeze (7-4) took Game 1 against FPC and then went on to win Game 3 and then Game 4 in comeback fashion — scoring three straight points to win the final game, 25-23, and the match.

Rachael Anderson, the team’s libero, had 31 digs against FPC. Captain Cortney White added 13 digs to go along with her four kills.

With the win, Seabreeze extended its winning streak to six games. A big reason for the streak, Craig-Craggy said, is the team isn’t making the same mental mistakes it made earlier in the year.

“The girls are meshing well,” she said. “We have a lot of girls who can play many positions. We are very versatile this year.”

Seabreeze’s versatility was enhanced when Craig-Craggy pulled up two freshmen from the JV team. The two, Shannon Stake (setter) and Vail Linn (outside hitter) are now starting on the varsity team. Linn had six kills against FPC.

“These girls brought some new freshness to the team, and it seems to be working out well,” Craig-Craggy said.

But perhaps the real heart of the team comes from White, who leads her players on the hardwood. She was voted as one of the team’s three captains before the season.

“She just has excellent overall volleyball smarts and ability,” Craig-Craggy said. “She sees the court, sees the holes in the defense and plays the ball accordingly.”

Craig-Craggy also said the five seniors on the team help with the overall leadership.
