Florida Highway Patrol troopers tried to conduct a traffic stop on Arron Craig Butler, 24, around mile marker 282 on I-95 northbound Thursday afternoon. His vehicle – a 1983 Ford truck – allegedly sported unlawful window tint.

After running Butler’s license, troopers discovered it was suspended and that Butler had a long list of outstanding felony warrants, including aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

When troopers asked Butler to exit the vehicle, he sped off towards Palm Coast. During the pursuit, Butler’s lone passenger, Dakota Lee Knowles, “threw a handgun out of the passenger window,” according to a release issued by the Highway Patrol. Troopers later recovered the gun, a 9mm semiautomatic.

Butler took the exit for the Palm Coast Parkway as troopers continued the pursuit. Travelling eastbound, the vehicle left the roadway before Club House Drive and came to rest “near a tree line.” Butler fled on foot.

Troopers deployed K-9 dog “Ronnie” to catch and subdue him. Ronnie “engaged” Butler’s right thigh, effectively ending the chase. Police took Butler in custody, charging him with 11 different counts, including possession of marijuana and cocaine.

Butler was also charged with outstanding counts in Duval County, including Armed Burglary. One trooper crash but was uninjured. Knowles was released from the scene.
