The Flagler Beach Police Department will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day April 26, keeping its doors open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. so residents and visitors can drop off expired or unwanted medicines.
The event is free, and the initiative will be held in collaboration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, according to a Flagler Beach Police Department news release.
“Medicines in the home are a leading cause of accidental poisoning, and flushed or trashed medicines can end up polluting our waters,” according to the news release. “Rates of prescription drug abuse are alarmingly high; over half of teens abusing medicines get them from a family member or friend, including the home medicine cabinet, and often without their knowledge.”
The Flagler Beach Police Department is located at 204 S. Flagler Avenue, one block south of State Road100 on the east side of the State Road 100 bridge.
