Cookin’ with gas

2:51 p.m. First block of Providence Lane.
Workers from a home repair and restoration service were working on a vacant house for a local realty office when one of them realized the stove had disappeared from the kitchen.

They contacted the real estate agent, who called the Sheriff’s Office.

The real estate agent told deputies the missing stove was a white, glass-top electric stove worth $575.

Workers hadn’t noticed any signs of an intruder when they’d arrived at the house, but a deputy found that a piece of plywood used to board up a broken window frame had been dislodged, and it was possible to reach in and unlock the door.

The home had sat vacant for a number of days before the workers arrived and noticed the theft.

The deputy didn’t process the scene because of the time delay and the fact that it had been contaminated by workers.

Wayward thief steals compass, cross

5800 block of U.S.1. Burglary.
A man called the Sheriff’s Office after someone broke into his trailer at night and stole things from his room.

He said he’d gone to sleep the night before at about 7:30.

His sister, who was staying with him and had a room in the other end of the trailer, went to bed at 11:30.

When he woke up the next morning, he noticed some of his prescription medication was missing, as well as some personal items, including a gold cross and a compass, which he told deputies was from the 1700s.

The doors of the trailer were locked when the man awoke in the morning, and deputies found no sign of forced entry.

He did not want to complete a written statement.
