Leadership class selects project
The 2014 Leadership Ormond Class has selected Avenue 12 Recovery House as the recipient of their class leadership service project. The 35-member class will raise funds and provide the labor to remove tree stumps and erect a privacy fence to secure an apartment building that is housing Avenue 12 clients.
Avenue 12 Recovery House operates transitional-living homes for women recovering from alcoholism and drug addiction. The class expects to complete the project April 25 to 27. Those interested in donating to the project can contact Kay Hayes at [email protected] or 265-4955.

Ormond orthodontist elected director
Dr. E. Joseph LeCompte, orthodontist, recently began serving a one-year term on the Board of Directors of the Southern Association of Orthodontists. He was also elected by the Florida Association of Orthodontists as component director. LeCompte is a past president of the Florida Association of Orthodontists, and a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, and Florida Dental Association. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. He has two locations, Port Orange and Ormond Beach.
Nurse earns breast cancer navigation designation
Cindy Thornton, registered nurse at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, has earned designation as a Certified Breast Patient Navigator from the National Consortium of Breast Centers after taking an examination in Las Vegas.
As a breast cancer navigator at the hospital, Thornton guides breast cancer patients along the pathway of care, helping to coordinate the various appointments and treatments.
