During Thursday’s Volusia County Council meeting Jon Kaney discussed his place in the investigation of Waverly Media Group.
According to Ormond Beach attorney Jonathan Kaney, the investigation into the relationship between the Volusia County Council and Waverly Media Group is far from over.
Though Kaney has recorded 23 interviews, he said a few key witnesses are refusing to comply with his subpoena authority. At Thursday’s VCC meeting, Kaney gave a vague description to his place in the investigation.
“I don’t think I know everything I need to know,” Kaney said. “ I can tell you I don’t think it will be a happy story to tell. “
Kaney also mentioned that the state attorney and an agent from the FBI were showing interest in the case.
Also at the meeting, County Chair Jason Davis gave the State of the County Address where he highlighted projects such as the SunRail and One Daytona as examples of recession recovery.
Davis said areas like real estate and new business startups had increased since last year. Park improvements like the paved road at High Bridge Park in Ormond Beach, were big wins for Volusia.
“We’ve come far as a county,” Davis said. “But we still have a ways to go.”
Davis was supposed to give the address at the April 4 meeting but he missed it because he was in the hospital with heart attack like symptoms. Despite his own concerns, he was released. Davis suffered a heart attack and was back in the hospital April 10.
Before Thursday’s meeting, Davis said he was in good health and nothing could slow him down.
