Donald Pellicer was driving east on State Road 100 near Colbert Lane at about 3:20 Tuesday, April 15. with two children and his wife Frances in the car when he noticed a beige GMC pickup truck on his tail.

He was in the right lane, going about 20 or 30 mph. The truck was glued to his bumper — just few feet behind, according to a Sheriff’s Office report — so he pulled over onto the grass shoulder to let it pass.

But instead of speeding around him, the truck pulled over with him and rammed his car from behind.

"Donald and Franes were in fear for their safety, so they immediately got back on to S.R. 100 and continued driving," according to the report, and "the GMC then also got back on S.R. 100 and continued following in an aggresive manner."

One of the two girls in the car was the daughter of a local deputy. Pellicer called the deputy, who was off duty but directed Pellicer to his apartment complex nearby.

The truck followed Pellicer to the apartment complex, where the deputy who was the girl’s father waited with Deputy Michael Breckwoldt, who was on duty.

Breckwoldt spoke to the truck driver, Daytona Beach resident Christopher Kevin Watson, and detained him “after he did not answer simple questions pertaining to the incident,” according to the report.

Breckwoldt noted that the rear of Pellicer’s red Volkswagen was damaged, and there were fresh red paint marks on the front passenger side of the GMC pickup.

Another deputy arrived and photographed both vehicles.

Breckwoldt arrested Watson on charges of aggravated battery “because there was probable cause to believe that Watson used his GMC pickup truck to intentionally strike the vehicle that was occupied by Frances, Donald, and the two children and created a substantial likelihood that they would have been injured,” according to the report.

He was taken to the Flagler County jail, and bond was set at $2,000. Jail records show he was also arrested for battery domestic violence in Flagler County in February.
