July 22
Just chillin’
2:28 p.m. First block of Squash Blossom Trail. Larceny.
A maintenance company worker arrived at his worksite — a vacant home on Squash Blossom Trail — July 22, and discovered that someone had gutted the home’s air conditioning unit.
All of the copper was gone, and just the shell of the AC unit remained.
The worker told a deputy that the last time someone had checked the home had been about two weeks before, and that the company he worked with had taken over the care of the property from another company.
There were other thefts at homes watched by that company, he said.
A deputy tried to check with neighbors to see if anyone saw anything suspicious, but no one answered the door.
The air conditioning unit was worth about $1,300.
July 28
Minor perps, major theft
9:07p.m. First block of Lamour Lane. Residential burglary.
A woman brought one of her sons home from a karate class July 28, and her oldest son told her that some of his things — including his Play Station 4 — were missing from his room.
She checked her own room, and realized that a $700-Tiffany necklace and $900 camera were missing.
The thief also made off with cash, headphones and sound equipment, and two Macbooks. The total value of the stolen items came to almost $8,000.
A neighbor told the deputy she had seen a youth behind the house that afternoon, and surveillance video showed two teenage boys peering through a rear window and then entering the house, disabling the alarm by inputting a code.
Part of the deputy’s report is redacted, as is often the case when deputies report on interactions with minors.
The deputy gave the woman a victim’s rights brochure and asked her to contact him if anything else went missing.
