Flagler County will host an open house at the county’s former courthouse from 2-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 to let people view the building’s interior and to “gauge public interest in leasing or purchasing all or part of the facility,” according to a county news release.
The building, at 200 State Road 100, was the seat of county government until the Government Services Building was constructed in 2006. The county granted the building to the city of Bunnell this spring, but Bunnell decided it could not afford to renovate and maintain the facility, and gave it back to the county, which now has no clear purpose for it. The county has created a seven-member blue-ribbon committee to determine what to do with it.
“We are very excited to hear about the public’s interest in the future use of this building,” said Commissioner Barbara Revels, who chairs the Ad Hoc Historic Courthouse Committee. “I am very pleased by the amount of public input we have received so far through the Historic Courthouse Committee, and I look forward to hearing more from our residents and the business community about the immense potential this property has for the future of Bunnell and Flagler County.
