Flagler Palm Coast High School and Matanzas High School both earned “B” ratings for the 2013-2014 school year.

"We are very proud of the hard work and accomplishments of MHS and FPC," Flagler Schools Superintendent Jacob Oliva said in a news release. "For the 2013-2014 year both of our high schools have earned a 'B,' which is impressive as we know the state changed the scale for the 2013-2014 school year. We are continuing to see great strides at both schools. This is a testament to their commitment to ensuring that every student has the resources needed to be successful." School grades for elementary and middle schools were released over the summer.

Flagler's overall district ranking in the state for the 2013-2014 school year is 12th, and the district earned a total of 521 points of of a possible 800, according to a PowerPoint presentation by district Assessment and Accountability Coordinator Shawn Shmidli. A total of 525 are needed for a grade of "A." A total of 10 school districts out of the 67 in the state received "A" grades.

Both schools had "A" grades last year, Oliva said, but "we’ve actually seen increases in our scores even though they’re "B’"s this year, because it’s a different scale."

The grading process, he said, "helps us identify areas where we’re doing well and areas where we want to improve. Now that we have this data we are able to begin digging. Overall, we’re very pleased with the data we’re seeing back from the state. I think it’s a testament to the hard work of our students, teachers and support staff. It’s also a testament to our visionary leaders and our supportive school board."
