BB gun vandal tip clouded by smoke

11:38 a.m. — 400 Block of North Beach Street. Information. The officer noticed a suspicious vehicle at a park on Beach Street, and as he approached, the driver-side door opened and a large cloud of marijuana-scented smoke wafted out from it.

As the smoke cleared, the officer could see three young men in the car. They said they were on lunch break from Seabreeze High School.

The officer informed the passengers he had probable cause to search them and the vehicle. No drug paraphernalia was found except for a small marijuana joint. None of the passengers said it belonged to them.

The officer asked one of the suspects if he knew anything about the BB gun vandalism that has been occurring in the town. The suspect said that one of his friends told him his brother was shooting out windows of vehicles and buildings with a CO2-based BB or pellet gun. He said there are two or three others who are involved, but he doesn’t know their names and he doesn’t know the type of vehicle they drive.

The marijuana was turned in for disposal, and the young men were allowed to return to school after their parents were contacted.  The information about the BB gun vandalism was turned over to the investigation division, but it turned out to a dead end, according to a police spokesman.

Unwanted roomie can't take a hint

4:23 p.m. — 100 Block of Green Forest Drive. Suspicious Person. Responding to a call about a suspicious person in a backyard, two officers noticed a broken window and back door. They then noticed a suspect crawling out of the broken window. The officers ordered him to the ground and called the homeowner, who said he does not want the suspect in the house, and he wants to press charges for any damages.

The owner said the suspect has been staying at the house, but he tried to kick him out a day ago.

At that time, the owner’s daughter arrived on the scene and stated that the suspect has been living in the house for three months. She confirmed the owner tried to kick the suspect out but that he has not legally done so.

The suspect was released.

No way to start a vacation

5:32 a.m. — 300 Block of Pine Tree Road. Stolen Vehicle. The victim said her mother had left the car running while she packed it with luggage. She then entered her residence for five minutes. After hearing a noise, she saw that her car had been stolen from the driveway.

The victims contacted OnStar, and OnStar was able to locate it at the intersection of North Adams Street and Progress Road, in Daytona Beach. Daytona Beach police could not find the vehicle. The officer asked OnStar to activate the horn and lights, and the police were then able to locate the vehicle in a fenced-in back yard on Adams Street.

No one would answer the door at the house on Adams Street. The officers located another car that had been reported stolen in Ormond Beach in the backyard and had both of them towed to Ormond Beach for processing.

Among the items stolen from the vehicle were a Canon camera with six lenses, valued at $5,000; an Apple iPad, $600; Asus Tablet, $2,000; clothing, $2,000; gold bracelet, $700; and earrings, $800.
