PALM COAST— Kaylee Warner, 3, stood on a wooden bench facing the stage, clapping and swaying to the music as The Afterwhile performed Saturday, Feb. 15, at the fifth-annual Hot Foods ‘n Spicy Tunes Festival.
The festival, which also featured tunes from Slickwood and food from various vendors including 2013 Rock 'N Rib Fest Grand Prize Winner Donnie’s BBQ, was held at the Florida Agricultural Museum. But even more than the food and music, the Banana Derby track drew the largest crowd.
The Banana Derby, created by Phillip Hendricks, features his pet monkeys racing on top of his pet dogs. The concept was developed when Hendricks looked out the kitchen window to see his monkeys riding around the yard on his dog.
Now, Hendricks said it is the fastest-growing trend in South Carolina.
Money raised from the event will benefit projects at the museum.
