Soccer will continue at the next level for four Seabreeze girls soccer players.
Jenna Davis, Sara James, Annie Gelnaw and Kayla Merkel have all signed to play soccer in college.
Davis, a defender, will attend Eckerd College, in St. Petersburg. She was named Seabreeze’s MVP as a freshman and sophomore, and she netted two goals and one assist as a senior defending player.
James, a midfielder, signed with Southeastern University, in Lakeland. As a senior, she tallied one goal and three assists, but her work in the midfield propelled the Lady Sandcrabs — offensively and defensively.
Gelnaw and Merkel both signed with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, in Daytona Beach. There, Gelnaw and Merkel will play for ERAU coach Samantha Bohan, a former Seabreeze girls soccer player.
Gelnaw uses her speed and quickness to get in behind her opponents. She was named the Bright House Sports Network Athlete of the Year in the 2012-2013 season and tallied 16 goals and nine assists this season.
Merkel, an athletic player, is known for her selflessness on the field. As a senior, she produced 10 goals and dished out 22 assists.
