FLAGLER COUNTY — A total of 83 drivers were pulled over last weekend, during what is being called a “saturation patrol” meant to cut down on alcohol-related crashes in Flagler County.
The patrol resulted in 22 citations issued and nine arrests made by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
Five additional deputies were placed on roadways throughout the county 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday and Saturday. They netted six DUI arrests and three additional arrests for narcotics possession and open warrants.
The citations issued included four for speeding, four for driving with a suspended license and 14 "other" nonmoving violations. Deputies assigned also issued 51 written warnings.
“This was a successful operation,” said Sheriff James L. Manfre. “My hope is that as time goes on, people will begin to realize just how dangerous it is to drink-and-drive and will start making better choices before they decide to get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.”
This was the first operation conducted by the Sheriff’s Office since obtaining a three-year, $70,000 renewable DUI Enforcement grant from the Florida Department of Transportation.
The agency is currently planning similar operations for the remainder of the year.
