COMPILED BY THE OBSERVER STAFF

Officer Thomas Garcia, of the Ormond Beach Police Department, and his new K-9 partner, Kane, recently attained certification as the city's newest K-9 team. Garcia and Kane completed an 80-hour narcotics-detection training course at Southern Coast K9, in New Smyrna Beach, which trains K-9 teams from around the country.

Garcia, an Ormond Beach native, has served with the Ormond Beach Police Department for the past five years. Prior to being selected as the new K-9 handler, Garcia was assigned to the Crime Suppression Unit.

Kane, a two-year-old purebred male German shepherd, imported from Germany, will be utilized for narcotics detection in vehicles, buildings, storage units, luggage, etc. When Kane is not working, he will spend his time at home with his handler, Garcia, according to information provided by the city of Ormond Beach.

Former Euro School airport space sold

Hangar Seven Aviation LLC has acquired the facilities at the airport previously occupied by the Euro American School of Aviation, which ceased operations last July. Hangar Seven plans to add additional office and administrative space and will operate the fuel farm at the facility. The company currently provides aircraft maintenance, sales, rental and other aircraft-related services at the airport.

The Euro School was forced to ground its planes after its certificate was revoked by the European Aviation Safety Agency, which is similar to the Federal Aviation Administration. The school was unable to meet new stringent guidelines by the agency.
